Candace Campbell Jackson, a vice provost at the University of Akron, was selected by Chancellor Kent Syverud to be the university's new chief of staff.

Chancellor Kent Syverud appointed Candace Campbell Jackson to the position of vice president and chief of staff on Thursday.

Jackson’s appointment will be presented to the Syracuse University Board of Trustees for approval at its next meeting. Once approved, Jackson will begin her new role as vice president and chief of staff on July 27, according to an SU News release.

“I am confident Candace is the right person to lead the Chancellor’s Office and to coordinate the executive leadership team and support me as we move forward with important strategic initiatives,” Syverud said in the release. “I am glad she’s agreed to come join us, and I’m eager to introduce her to our students, faculty and staff.”

Jackson currently serves as the vice president for student success and vice provost for academic success at the University of Akron. At Akron, Jackson also works with the senior leadership team to provide the best overall experience to the 26,000 students at the school, according to the release.

“I am hopeful that my experience in advancing an institution’s strategic priorities in the ever-dynamic landscape of higher education will position me well as a partner with the Syracuse faculty, students, staff and leadership team,” Jackson said in the release. “… Looking ahead, I’m excited about building new relationships and working alongside Chancellor Syverud and the entire campus community to enhance Syracuse University’s impact regionally, nationally and internationally.”

The former chief of staff to Chancellor Syverud — Hoang-Anh Tran — has returned to Kansas City, Missouri in order to purse new opportunities. During her transition, Tran will serve as a special assistant to Syverud, according to the release.
