Syracuse wins two matches against Georgia State and South Florida

The Orange won its first two games at the Under Armour Invitational. It'll play two games again tomorrow.

Syracuse (11-5) opened play at the Under Armour Invitational in Tampa, Florida with two wins on Friday. The day began with a 5-2 victory over Georgia State (10-8) followed by a close 2-1 win against South Florida (10-6).

In the first game, Sydney O’Hara once again led the charge for the Orange, racking up three RBIs off of three hits. Sammy Fernandez also shined offensively going 2-for-4 at the plate while scoring three runs for the Orange. In the circle, O’Hara dominated in the final four innings of the game to earn the win. O’Hara only allowed two hits in the game following her relief of Alexa Romero.

The second game was kept scoreless through the first five innings. Bryce Holmgren opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly. In the next at-bat, Faith Cain knocked home the eventual game-winning run on a ground out. USF scored one run on AnnaMarie Gatti before O’Hara came in to earn the save.

The Orange take on Penn (1-1) and Central Michigan (6-6) tomorrow to close out tournament play.
